02. AA VISITING SCHOOL LUXEMBOURG
Esch22 - European Capital of Culture
Circular construction summer programme exploring post-industrial landscapes in southern Luxembourg, located at a tiers-lieu culturel in Esch-sur-Alzette Programme heads: Anouk Ahlborn and Fearghus Raftery, AA Visiting School Luxembourg
Collective urban intervention workshop followed by an exhibition at LUCA, Luxembourg Centre for Architecture
Design research on the post-industrial Southern Minett region of Luxembourg, focusing on Esch-sur-Alzette and its transition from a century of industrial peak to de-industrialisation following the steel crisis of the 1970s, engaging with sites transforming in relation to the cultural programming of Esch2022 European Capital of Culture.
Developed as a collective intervention, the proposal consists of mobile urban furniture made from upcycled materials, installed in public space. The design explores the social dimension of instability through pivoting benches that shift balance depending on user interaction, encouraging physical engagement and informal dialogue. The project reflects on post-industrial public space as a site of negotiation between bodies, materials, and collective use.

03. IS ARCHITECTURE VISIBLE?
Ambiguity in Everyday Scenes in Belval
Collective studio project
Communicating Architecture Seminar, M.Arch
Lecturers: Thomas Mayfried and Erica Overmeer
A selection of the collective works was edited by the lecturers and curated into a publication, and presented at the Re-imagining Belval exhibition at the University of Luxembourg.
Developed as a collective studio project, the seminar explored how architecture becomes visible through everyday conditions and ambiguous spatial situations within the periphery of Belval. The project resulted in a series of photographic studies produced on and around the Cité des Sciences, collectively reviewed and discussed throughout the seminar.
As one of the first redeveloped post-industrial sites in Luxembourg, the area underwent extensive environmental remediation processes, including the displacement of contaminated soil to nearby slag heaps and the encapsulation of remaining toxic grounds underneath thick asphalt layers. My contribution focused on the fragmented and highly controlled presence of nature within the redeveloped post-industrial landscape of Belval.

05. LEARNING FROM THE AVENUE
Academic design studio, M. Arch Tutors: Philippe Nathan and Prof. Florian Hertweck
Design research on the Luxembourg -Belgium -France border region of Petange, Aubange, and Longwy, addressing the fragmented territorial conditions described by Sieverts’ concept of Zwischenstadt.
Collaborative studio framework with Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, University of Kassel, Technical University of Munich, and TU Wien as part of the Zwischenstadt
followed by a collective student exhibition of Zwischenstand der Zwischenstadt at TU Munich
The project investigates cross-border urbanisation shaped by overlapping political, economic, and infrastructural systems. The proposal focuses on intensifying existing infrastructures, particularly the Avenue de l’Europe, while avoiding further land sealing. It reactivates already sealed sites such as parking areas, gas stations, and retail zones through hybrid programmatic transformations, aiming to bring together sprawled urban functions and strengthen resilience across a cross-border territory.

Academic exhibition project, M.Arch
Tutors: Philippe Nathan and Prof. Florian Hertweck
Collective academic exhibition displayed cross-university research involving the University of Luxembourg, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, TU Munich, Uni Kassel and TU Wien.
